Significance:
Pavithrotsavam is a sacred ceremony that upholds a high level of Divine Power for the deities in accordance with temple scriptures. It serves as a "prayaschitta" event, rectifying unintentional human errors in daily worship and religious rituals, mitigating any inadvertent omissions or shortcomings.
Meaning and Purpose:
Derived from "Pavitra" (holy) and "utsava" (festival), Pavithrotsavam seeks to cleanse any missteps in rituals throughout the year. Also known as Dosha Nivaarana and Sarva Yajna Phalapradha, this festival involves:
Purifying five colors of Silk Pavitra Malas with Mantras
Offering them to the Gods and Goddesses of Sri Balaji Temple
Ceremony Highlights:
Homam (fire ritual)
Special abhishekam to Lord Venkateshwara Moola Moorthi and Utsava Murthies
Purification rites to prepare the sacred Pavitrams
Pavitra Samarpana:
On Sunday, 13 October, sanctified Pavitrams will adorn the deities during the Pavitra Samarpana ceremony, infusing divine power into the atmosphere. Sponsoring devotees will receive these blessed Pavitrams at the ceremony's conclusion.
Sponsors for the three-day Pavithrotsavam event (which includes Pavitra Mala Sponsorship) are welcome.
Suggested donation: $501
All donations are eligible for NZ tax claims.
1. What is Pavithrotsavam?
Pavithrotsavam is a purification ceremony that upholds a high level of Divine Power for the deities, following temple scriptures. Its purpose is to rectify unintentional human errors that occur during daily worship and religious rituals (Mantra, Kriya, etc.). As a "prayaschitta" event, it helps mitigate any inadvertent omissions or shortcomings in worship.
2. What is Pavithram?
Derived from "Pavitra" (holy) and "Utsava" (festival), Pavithram aims to cleanse any missteps in rituals performed throughout the year. Also known as Dosha Nivaarana and Sarva Yajna Phalapradha, this festival involves purifying silk Pavitra Malas of five colors with mantras, which are then offered to Sri Balaji, Sri Devi, and Bhu Devi.
3. What protocols should be followed during Pavithrotsavam?
The ceremony includes Homams, special Abhishekam to Lord Venkateshwara's Moola Moorthi and Utsava Murthies, and purification rites to prepare the sacred Pavitrams. The sanctified Pavitrams will adorn the deities during the Pavitra Samarpana ceremony, infusing divine power into the atmosphere.
4. What benefits do devotees receive?
As mentioned earlier, the ceremony rectifies unintentional human errors in daily worship and religious rituals. Sponsoring devotees will receive the blessed Pavitrams at the conclusion of the ceremony. These sanctified Pavitrams should be kept safely in your daily puja area at home.
5. Is any preparation required to attend the event?
Sponsors for the three-day Pavithrotsavam event (including Pavitra Mala Sponsorship) are welcome. Suggested donation: $501
Traditional clothing (Dhothi and Sarees) is encouraged.
All devotees are encouraged to participate with their families and friends in this spiritual event.
Devotees are welcome to bring flowers, fruits, and prasadam.
6. Is there a fundraising program for temple development?
Yes, the Temple Trust is planning to expand the temple and is seeking sizable donations to cover the expansion costs. The Trust proposes two donation schemes:
Temple Development Family Scheme 1: $3,000 donation per family, which includes life membership and one year of Nitya Archana (payable within one year).
Temple Development Family Scheme 2: $5,000 donation per family, which includes life membership and five years of Nitya Archana (payable within one year). If the donor is already a life member of SBTT, another family member of their choice can be nominated for life membership.
We appeal to the public, especially devotees, to donate towards this humble cause so that we can continue providing a high standard of religious services following the protocols of Agamasastra in the Temple.
